particularly important for making the best decision to help the educators. In
Malaysia, a research has been done on Form 4 students of a school in Kolombong,
Kota Kinabalu. The school is categorized as an urban school in the Education
Department (PPD) database. The results indicated that perceived parental
influences, teacher effective support, and classroom instruction were
significant predictors of attitude toward mathematics. Besides, there were
other contributing factors such as students’ socio-economic status, gender and
past achievements (Davadas & Lay, 2017). Based on the study above, we
are interested to conduct a research at a secondary school in a rural area
which is in a small town in Kelantan. This study will be conducted at Sekolah
Menengah Sultan Ibrahim 1. Based
on the Academic Affairs Department, there are 270 students registered as PT3
candidates at the school. An estimated 51.2% of them got lower marks in mathematics
results which are E and F grades. The
results indicated that students faced difficulties in mathematics subjects. So,
we want to examine the factor that affects mathematical achievement at this school.
